Arrival by Airplane

Arrival by plane In just half an hour by train, taxi or hotel shuttle you can reach the city from Schiphol Airport. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the national airport, is situated around 20km from Amsterdam. More than 60 airlines fly to Schiphol and have offices at the airport or in Amsterdam.

Regional airports
Many smaller airlines also fly to regional airports such as Rotterdam or Eindhoven, or airports near the Dutch border, such as Brussels, Weeze, Dusseldorf and Munich. From these, you can travel via public transport or taxi to Amsterdam.

To travel to and from Eindhoven airport or Weeze airport to Amsterdam you can use the Air Express Bus.

Find more details about transport to airports at the website of Schiphol.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
Approximately 15km south-west of Amsterdam is the city’s only airport: Schiphol. This national and international airport handles over 40 million passengers a year and 3,600 flights to 230 destinations worldwide a week, making it Europe’s fourth largest passenger airport.

Despite its hustle and bustle, Schiphol is known as a well-organised airport. The arrival and departure halls are located under one roof with the shopping centre, Schiphol Plaza. Clear signposts guide you easily to your destination.

After passing customs, you will reach the shops and bars of Schiphol Plaza. From here you are offered a selection of transportation methods into Amsterdam.

NEW: Connexxion Amsterdam Tourist Ticket

This busticket cost € 10,- round trip. The bus takes only 30 minutes from Schiphol Plaza to the centre of Amsterdam (Leidseplein). There are 6 to 8 buses each hour. Journeys do not have to take place on the same day.

Taxi
The taxi rank is located at the airport’s exit. Depending on traffic, a taxi can take you to the city centre in half an hour. One ride will cost you approximately 40 euros. It is strongly advised not to take rides from drivers soliciting within the airport. These are not officially approved taxi drivers.
Hotel shuttles
A hotel shuttle service enables you to travel to a number of large hotels that are situated in the airport area. The Connexxion Schiphol Hotel Shuttle connects Schiphol to over a hundred hotels in Amsterdam.

Train

‘Schiphol’ train station is located directly underneath the airport. From here, intercities and slower trains from the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways - NS) can take you to Amsterdam Central Station (city centre), Amsterdam Zuid-WTC (World Trade Center) and Amsterdam RAI (Exhibition and Conference Centre RAI). These stations are a maximum of 25 minutes away.
Ticket sales
Train tickets are available at the ticket office in the airport's main hall and yellow ticket machines. The latter are located near the baggage claims, shopping centre Schiphol Plaza and near the platforms. These machines accept Dutch cash cards, and some also accept coins, but not credit cards.
Frequency trains
During the daytime, an average of five trains an hour run from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station. At night, you can use the late-night routes. From 1 am to 5 pm, the night train runs once an hour from Utrecht CS to Amsterdam CS – Schiphol – Leiden CS – The Hague CS – Delft and Rotterdam CS and back, not stopping at smaller stations in between.
(Semi-)invalid assistance
There is an elevator at Schiphol train station which can take you from the platform to the airport and vice versa. Call the Nederlandse Spoorwegen for help at the train station of your departure and arrival, telephone number +31 (0)30 230 5566. By doing so, it is possible to gain wheelchair access to trains.

The train timetable is detailed on the website of Nederlandse Spoorwegen or see the Schiphol website for information on the airport.
